HUDSON’S HOPE, B.C. — BC Hydro is hosting open houses in Hudson’s Hope and Mackenzie to discuss the forecast of the Williston reservoir as the region moves into the spring.

Mike Kellett, a northern community relations manager with BC Hydro, says they expect the reservoir to drop to lower-than-average levels again in 2024 due to the ongoing drought.

“What happens is the lower precipitation, in particular the snowpack from the drought, means that there are lower inflows into the reservoir,” Kellett explained.

“So when the reservoir is lower than normal, there can be different impacts for communities, industry and First Nations near Williston.”

According to Kellett, the impacts on nearby communities could include increased dust.

“It’s really an opportunity for BC Hydro to meet with people and provide our latest and best information so that they can prepare and be ready,” Kellett said.

“We’re hoping to see as many people as we can and looking forward to it.”

The first information session will be held in Hudson’s Hope on Wednesday, February 7th, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hudson’s Hope Community Hall.

On Thursday, February 8th, an information session will be held in Mackenzie at the Mackenzie Recreation Centre.
