FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The windstorm on Tuesday caused approximately 1,356 BC Hydro customers in Fort St. John to lose power.

“It’s safe to say the vast majority of the unplanned outages since [Tuesday] have been from issues caused by high winds,” said Mike Kellett with BC Hydro.

Approximately 17 outages occurred on Tuesday, and according to BC Hydro, many were due to trees falling on power lines.

The first outage occurred at approximately 9:05 a.m. on January 30th, with less than five customers affected, but power wasn’t restored until 1 a.m. the following day.

Some affected by the outages only had to wait a couple of hours for their power to come back on, while others had to wait upwards of seven hours.

Outages were reported throughout the day in and around Fort St. John and Dawson Creek, with most power being restored by the end of the day, according to Kellett.
