DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The City of Dawson Creek’s emergency warming centre is now fully activated, offering safety from the extreme cold for the community’s vulnerable population.
According to a release from the city, the activation of the warming centre means there are more resources, including space and staff, available to carry the community through the cold weather.
Earlier this week, Environment Canada issued an extreme cold warning, with a hazard of bitterly cold wind chill values as low as -40C.
Dawson Creek community members in need of warming centre services can head to the Nawican Shelter at 1401 102 Avenue, 24 hours a day, seven days per week.
Warming centre services are also available at Obair Economic Society, located at 10201 10th Street. This centre is open from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., from Monday to Friday.
Both emergency warming centres offer light refreshments.
Community members interested in helping or donating are asked to contact the warming centres directly.
