Dog with leg injury surrendered to South Peace SPCA

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A two-year-old husky and lab mix named Dobby was surrendered to the BC SPCA’s South Peace animal centre after being attacked.
Dobby was initially brought to a veterinary clinic after his owner’s wolfdog had attacked him on a property outside of Dawson Creek. He had a large open wound on his leg, exposing the bone, muscle and tendons.
After nine days of care, the owner decided to stop treatment and surrendered Dobby.

“We agreed to take on the remaining veterinary costs, as he had been through so much,” said Chelsea Blackwell, BC SPCA’s South Peace animal centre manager.
She said animal welfare officers will investigate and talk to the owner.
Dobby’s care includes daily sedation to change his bandages, which will be required until his wounds have healed enough that it does not cause him pain. He is also wearing a splint to help his injury close.
“We have started transitioning Dobby to bandage changes every second to third day,” said Blackwell.

“The bandage changes are necessary until the wound is closed and there is no longer any risk of infection.”
The animal centre’s manager says Dobby is very brave.
“He’s a very sweet dog, even when he was injured, he didn’t have any signs of aggression, he’s gonna be very, very adoptable,” Blackwell said.
Dobby will be available for adoption in approximately two to three weeks and is currently staying with a foster volunteer.
