Taylor seeing if there is interest in dismantling old log caretaker residence
The District of Taylor is seeking information from interested parties on removing the old log caretaker residence at Peace Island Park.

TAYLOR, B.C. — The District of Taylor is seeking information from interested parties on removing the old log caretaker residence at Peace Island Park.
The district has sent out a Request For Expression of Interest (RFEI) to determine if there is enough interest in providing the services required to dismantle and remove the Pickle House.
The information provided may be used to develop a procurement process. The district may start a competitive bidding opportunity if enough data is received.
Submissions for other services will not be considered, and submissions of an RFEI do not guarantee an invitation in any future contracting processes.
The Pickle House is located on the south side of Big Bam Road, leading to the island at Peace Island Park.
The 2,000-square-foot building was built in the late 1980s but is only a replica of the original house.
The park added an office to the structure that did not meet zoning bylaw requirements to be used as a commercial property. A new caretaker residence and office were built, and the Pickle House was left empty.

In August, the district’s director of community services, Ryan Galay, presented a report to council looking into options for the removal of the house.
According to Galay’s report, the vacant Pickle House has been empty and unmaintained for several years and was broken into and vandalized in July, making the structure a safety concern.
