FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — North Peace Historical Society staff and volunteers are busy gearing up for our Halloween at the Museum event and Marine Dinosaur Kits. We love sharing history in interactive ways and have had lots of fun preparing for these events!

On Friday, October 27th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., drop by the Fort St. John North Peace Museum to go trick-or-treating as a family. Dress the kids up in costumes (parents can dress up, too), and don’t forget to bring your trick-or-treat bags!

This Halloween at the Museum event is bigger and better than ever, so that means a few changes this year over last year’s event. This year, participants will enter at the back of the museum (the door beside the garage door) so that our line-up can be inside the building (with some fun activities to do while waiting) instead of out in the cold.

Once you’re past the initial line-up, kids will trick-or-treat through the museum while learning fun facts about the history of Halloween, collecting candy and goodies, and picking up take-home Halloween crafts and activities.

We’re pleased to be partnering with the Sunrise Rotary Club of Fort St. John to bring you this event once again. Thanks to the North Peace Savings and Credit Union for being our main sponsor and to the Fort St. John Co-operative Association for sponsoring all the take home crafts!

Did you know that marine dinosaurs are actually marine reptiles? Learn about amazing creatures that have been discovered in the Peace Region through this FREE take home kit. The North Peace Historical Society is celebrating these remarkable reptiles through 200 free kits for school children sponsored by Surerus Pipeline.

Learn about local discoveries such as the Hudsonelpidia (named after Hudson’s Hope) and the Sikanni Chief ichthyosaur on our fun fact sheet. Make your own ichthyosaur bookmark. Create a magical marine dinosaur lantern out of a glass jar, tissue paper, and marine reptile silhouettes, complete with a battery-operated tea light and a jute handle.

Kits are available at the Fort St. John North Peace Museum (9323 100th Street) starting Friday, November 3rd, as long as supplies last.

A huge thank you to Surerus Pipeline for making these free kits possible.

The marine dinosaur lantern is a very long craft and is not recommended for pre-schoolers or toddlers. We are happy to provide you with a marine dinosaur colouring sheet for your younger children. Kits can be picked up during museum hours of operation (Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
