Behind the Scenes
Yesterday was a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation so we wanted to take a moment to discuss the role of local media in assisting with reconciliation.
In general, the goal of most local news organizations is to amplify the voices within their communities by discussing pertinent issues and by providing a platform to residents. Historically speaking, a lot of media has neglected the voice of First Nations. At Energeticcity.ca, we have made an effort to rectify this as much as we can.
Since launching in 2008, we have made an effort to write articles about issues affecting the First Nations in our region. Since 2021, we have produced a podcast called Before the Peace where we sit down with local Indigenous members and experts to hear from them directly about their stories and hopes for the future. In 2022, we created the Indigenous Voices position so that we had a greater focus on these stories and strengthen our relationship with local First Nations. In our weekly FSJ Today newsletter and Facebook page, we share as many publicly available events as possible that the Nations in our region put on.
Latest Stories
As we continue to strive for truth and reconciliation as a country, we will always commit to trying our best to help build relationships between all community members in our region.
Top Stories of the Week
It’s always interesting to see what the readers of Energeticcity.ca are most interested in the region. Sometimes it’s a big decision that will impact property taxes, and sometimes it’s a new restaurant coming to town. Here are the top stories for the week of September 24 to 30, 2023:
- Increased Fire Activity: led to area restrictions near the Donnie Creek wildfire. To keep up with current wildfire news, make sure to check out our Forest Fire News category.
- Canadian Production of SIX the Musical: features a former Fort St John resident. Elysia Cruz will be portraying Katherine Howard in the musical until the production finishes next year.
- Restoration Work Underway: on the vacant lot downtown in Fort St John. Knappett Industries continues to lay grass on the vacant lot at 100th Street and 100th Avenue following last year’s 100th Street Corridor construction.
