UPDATE: Code Orange removed from Prince George hospital after bus incident

The University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) in Prince George declared a Code Orange Friday morning after a motor vehicle incident involving a charter bus.

UPDATE (June 16th, 3:32 p.m.): The University Hospital of Northern BC’s Code Orange response is now complete and the hospital is resuming normal operations.

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — The University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) in Prince George declared a Code Orange Friday morning after a motor vehicle incident involving a charter bus rolling over.

According to RCMP, the incident occurred on the Firth Lake Forest Service Road near Hambone Road.

There were approximately 30 people on the bus and the hospital received 18 patients.

According to Northern Health the patients are considered to be in good to fair condition.

B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix confirmed on Twitter that a Northern Health Connections bus and an air ambulance had been deployed to assist with transporting injured passengers.

Seven ground ambulances from Prince George and Mackenzie, three BC Emergency Health Services support units and multiple frontline police officers were dispatched to the location of the incident.

The University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) in Prince George declared a Code Orange to support the response to the incident.

A Code Orange is declared if the hospital’s human or physical resources are overwhelmed.

Northern Health would like to thank the dedicated physicians, nurses and staff at the hospital for their response.

The health authority also thanked BC Emergency Health Services who dispatched ambulances, support crews, as well as cared for and transported 15 people to the hospital.
