UDPATE: Four companies associated with Site C make court appearance

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Four companies associated with the Site C dam project were charged for depositing water that had run over potentially acid-generating rocks into the Peace River and not reporting it.

Acciona, BC Hydro, Peace River Hydro Partners and Samsung Renewable Energy were charged with depositing a deleterious substance and two counts of failing to notify an inspector, fisher officer or authority.

The companies appeared in court on Thursday to fix a court date.

According to BC Court Services Online, the offences occurred in Fort St. John on September 8th and 9th, 2018.

The companies will appear in court again on July 31st to submit their plea.

In 2018, water ran over potentially acid-generating rocks before being drained into the Peace River, and BC Hydro released details on the incident in a Site C quarterly report dated between July 1st and September 20th, 2022.

Approximately four million litres of water that had run over potentially acid-generating rocks was released into the Peace River, according to the report.
