FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Funds raised in Fort St. John during McHappy Day will be used to repair the parking lot of the Child Development Centre.

Fort St. John residents helped raise around $9,700 on May 10th, which will be split between the Fort St. John Child Development Centre and Ronald McDonald House.

Executive director for the CDC, Tana Millner, says the funds will be used to repair parts of the parking lot that has been having drainage problems.

Following the facility’s expansion in 2008, the pavement started eventually sinking, resulting in drainage issues.

Any leftover funds will be used to replace items lost during a minor basement flood at the facility on May 18th.

Millner thanks the community for their continuous support every year during McHappy Day.

“Our community always comes out and supports McHappy Day, and the local McDonald’s [in Fort St. John] is amazing to work with,” said Millner.

“It goes hand in hand. The kiddos we support here in the community are often sent down to Vancouver and spend time at Ronald McDonald House. So, it’s quite a conducive partnership.”

The Dawson Creek Mcdonald’s raised around $8,000 that will be split between Ronald McDonald House and the South Peace Child Development Centre.

Overall, $7.5 million was raised for Ronald McDonald House Charities across Canada and other local children’s charities.
