Grad Fest plans to be a “fun, safe, memorable evening” for students

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Grad Fest is returning for a “fun, safe, memorable evening” that parents put on for kids graduating in 2023.

Kevin Stigners, the fundraising coordinator for 2023’s North Peace Regional Grad Fest Society, says it is an all-inclusive event for every graduate, including rural and home school students.

“We are really striving to create a very fun evening that the kids can come and celebrate their accomplishments, celebrate their 13-year career in the school system and enjoy a nice evening on the parents and the community,” Stigners said.

He says Grad Fest will include inflatable activities, such as sumo wrestling, a series of games, a DJ and food set up multiple times throughout the evening featuring local caterers.

“It’s really focused on trying to keep these kids entertained,” Stigners said.

“We have a system in place where the kids, by participating, they get punches on these cards, and once they fill the cards up, they can go and throw that into a draw and then go and continue with another card.”

Some of the prizes include practical items such as tool or safety kits, but also Kuma folding chairs, Skull Candy earbuds, iPads and other gift cards.

Stigners wants to acknowledge the people and businesses who have already contributed to the event through time and money.

“It’s been super, super positive and very receptive out there. We appreciate it,” he said.

The society is still looking for sponsors, monetarily or for direct prizes, and for volunteers to help run the event.

The event will be held on June 23rd from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. at the Curling Rink.
