DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Dawson Creek RCMP are warning residents to be careful buying and selling on Facebook Marketplace after a report of fraudulent sales in the area.
RCMP received a report of a fraudster who was advertising a gazebo on Facebook Marketplace. The seller would ask for money or e-transfers upfront before ceasing all contact once the money was received.
According to police, the item posted was never provided.
Police are warning residents to be careful when buying or selling items from social media. The RCMP recommends only paying for the item once it is received in person, vetting the seller and their online profile, and meeting in well-populated or public spaces to make the exchange.
Residents who have been victims of this or any other online scams are encouraged to contact the Dawson Creek RCMP at 250-784-3700.
