Boating access to change around Site C reservoir filling
Halfway River boat launch will remain open until September, when all boat launches in the Site C reservoir area will be closed permanently.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Halfway River boat launch will remain open until September, when all boat launches in the Site C reservoir area will be closed permanently.
The permanent closures are due to the reservoir filling.Â
According to BC Hydro, the Halfway River boat launch will remain accessible and open via the gravel access road off Highway 29 for the majority of the 2023 boating season. However, construction may cause access delays or intermittent closures.Â
The D.A. Thomas and Lynx Creek boat launches have already been permanently closed and are inaccessible due to construction.Â
Once the reservoir is filled, which could happen as early as this fall, two new boat launches and a recreation area will be built.Â
The new Halfway River and Lynx Creek boat launches will be built east of the existing boat launches, and the recreation area will be built at the bottom of D.A Thomas Road.Â
The boat launches and recreation area will not open for one year after the completed filling of the reservoir to allow for slope stability and erosion monitoring of the area.Â
