FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Shoppers Drug Mart is this year’s recipient of the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation’s Janet Taylor Award.
The store has been working with the FSJ Hospital Foundation since 1999. Over those past twenty years, they’ve raised and donated almost $204,000 to the foundation.
Store Manager Tammy Koponyas says this makes them the top fundraising store nationally.
“That’s something this community really has to be proud about,” Koponyas said.
“Without our generous community, we wouldn’t be here accepting this award. So it’s really on behalf of our staff and our community that this is happening,” Koponyas continued.
Kelly Amboe of the FSJ Hospital Foundation says that Shoppers has been a part of many campaigns throughout the years, which has had a wide-ranging impact.
“Tammy focused on women’s health, which was the main focus the last five years, where we buy things for the birthing center,” Amboe said.
“It’s had a lasting impact and affects many people in the community as we have very high birth rates,” Amboe continued.
Koponyas says that she’s grateful for the relationship the store has with the Foundation.
“It truly is a very positive, uplifting experience for all of us and my staff,” Koponyas said
Amboe echoed Koponyas statement.
“It is amazing to have such great community partners and such long-standing community partners,” Amboe said.
The Janet Taylor Award is an annual award given by the FSJ Hospital Foundation that celebrates an individual, group or corporation who demonstrates a commitment to volunteerism or philanthropy by giving time, talent, or financial support to the Foundation and its purposes.
It was established by the Foundation in honour of Janet Taylor, who began working with the Foundation in 1998.
“We honour Janet’s dedication and ensure her legacy of caring will be remembered by annually awarding the Janet Taylor Award, recognizing an individual, group, or company who has demonstrated the same kind of spirit,” the Foundation said in a release.
