FORT ST. JOHN, B.C – Load restrictions are around the corner for North Peace highways.

The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure in the Peace District sent out an advisory Monday that load restrictions could be placed on short notice.

“Pursuant to Section 66 of the Transportation Act, and to the provisions of the Commercial Transport Act, notice is hereby given that load restrictions may be placed on short notice in the near future on all highways within the Peace Highways District, as conditions warrant,” says Peace District District Manager of Transportation Katherine Styba in the advisory.

The ministry says its continuously monitoring the weather and ground conditions to determine when to implement load restrictions.

Companies that are transporting equipment over “spring break up” are advised to do so as soon as possible to ensure equipment is in place during the restriction period.

The Ministry of Transportation will consider night hauling when the road base remains frozen and overnight temperatures allow for sufficient surface refreeze. Any approval for night hauls will be messaged through under Seasonal Load Restrictions.
