FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The B.C. CDC will finally start releasing data about the number of COVID-19 cases in each local health area.

The map will show the number of new cases each week in the North Peace, South Peace, Fort Nelson and other local health areas.

From November 29 to December 5, there were 24 cases of COVID 19 diagnosed in Peace River North. In Peace River South, there were only six new cases, and in Fort Nelson, there have been no cases in the last week.

The only issue with the new data is 89 cases from the last week in the Northern Health Region are missing address information. Any cases without an address or from out of the Province are not included on the map.

On Thursday 40 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the Northern Health Region, making the number of active cases increase to 402.

Residents and local officials have asked since the pandemic began for more detailed data to be released than case counts by a health authority. Dr. Henry says this data can now be made available as it won’t identify anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 due to the high number of cases.

The new map and data will be posted every Wednesday on the B.C. CDC website.
