FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The City of Fort St. John has made some changes to the bylaw for the removal of snow and other obstructions from sidewalks.
According to City Communications Manager Ryan Harvey, the overall change to the bylaw was the addition of different methods on how to issue a ticket to an offender.
Harvey says, in the past, a Bylaw Officer would go door-to-door to issue the ticket, without giving the property owner or resident the opportunity to dispute the claim.
Now, offending property owners can go through the process of disputing the ticket if they feel they have been wrongfully ticketed.
Harvey says the fine for not clearing your sidewalk within 48 hours after a snowfall is $200 and if you pay it within 14 days, you can receive a discount.
The bylaw can be found on the City’s website.
