FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – City of Fort St. John Council has approved an updated policy for Base Budget Grants, which would see grants being administered by a community foundation.
Prior to the policy change, non-profits requesting relief from property taxes would apply for a permissive property tax exemption and it would be distributed by Council.
In June, Council approved a Permissive Property Tax Grant-in-Aid Policy which reflected the process identified in the Financial Policy Framework which would see grants administered by a community foundation, instead of Council.
A community foundation invests funds and uses the proceeds to support local community groups and local community priorities.
Now that Council has approved the updated policy, this will be the process used starting in the fall of 2021.
