FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The City of Fort St. John will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Pomeroy Sport Centre on Tuesday.
The building opened on October 13, 2010, but the planning for the building started in 2004. Originally called the Enerplex, the name changed with the grand opening of the building. Â The multi-sport facility cost approximately $44 million and, at the opening, featured a long-track speedskating oval, a running track and two NHL size hockey rinks.
The building now also features the School District 60 ELC program, various meeting spaces and the Visitor Information Centre.
“We are so pleased that the past ten years this world-class multi-functional facility has offered our families and youth the opportunity to experience the thrill of watching provincial, national and international events. Watching our athletes in local events and practices as they continue to gain strength and experience on the ice ensures that our history of having athletes on the national and international stages will continue”, commented Mayor Lori Ackerman.
