Study to examine future of RCMP building

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

At this afternoon’s City Committee of the Whole meeting council was presented with an outline illustrating the process that will take place in determining the future of the current RCMP building. Under review is whether the current building will be renovated, or if a new one should be constructed.

Once the cost of each scenario is known it will then be presented to Council. Council will then determine what to take forward for an alternative approval process or referendum if required.

Back in June of 2014, council approved the City’s Facility Master plan study. In the report one of the immediate recommendations was to begin planning on whether or not to renovate the current building, or build a new structure.

In August of last year City staff were given authorization acquire parcels of land next to the current RCMP building. That land has since been purchased.
