Police investigate sudden death outside of Beaverlodge
BEAVERLODGE, A.B. — Police in both Beaverlodge and Grande Prairie are investigating a sudden death that followed the sight of a speeding vehicle on Highway 43.
On Tuesday afternoon, around 4:20 p.m., RCMP members attempted to initiate a traffic stop with a white Dodge Ram that was travelling at 170 kilometres per hour. The truck failed to stop for police and continued driving recklessly through Beaverlodge on Highway 43. RCMP did not pursue it.
The same Dodge Ram was later seen by police stuck in a field outside of Beaverlodge. RCMP attended the area and set up containment around the truck, but before police could approach the vehicle, a single gunshot was heard.
Police did not fire any shots, and found the man in the vehicle, having died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
After the Director of Law Enforcement in Alberta was advised, it was determined that the investigation will remain with the RCMP.
The name of man who died has been identified, but his name will not be released.
