Site C protests continue in downtown Vancouver
VANCOUVER, B.C. — Roughly 50 protesters gathered in front of BC Hydro headquarters in downtown Vancouver on Sunday, in the ongoing opposition to the development of the Site C dam.
“I’m scared for a world that has a Site C dam, that has LNG, and that does not have salmon and wildlife .. and I’m willing to put my life on the line to stop that from happening,” activist Kristin Henry told CKNW.
Henry is camping in front of the building and will stop eating completely in an act against the project.
“I will not be having a bite of food, and I will not be leaving this property unless there’s a halt to construction and the Treaty 8 are properly consulted,” she said.
Another activist, Audrey Siegel, says the injunction is ‘an example of the ongoing criminalization of protectors.’
“Even just using the word ‘protesters’ shows a very slanted view of who the people are and what they’re doing,” she also told CKNW.
This follows the B.C. Supreme Court granting BC Hydro an injunction to remove protesters from the Rocky Mountain Fort Camp on the south bank of the Peace River.
