2015 sees less building permits – but higher construction value – than 2014

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The numbers are out for building permits issued for December 2015, and they show that, although the city has issued less permits than in November and October, the worth of the permits issued is more.

This difference is also reflected in the numbers of 2015 and 2014. The City issued 277 permits in total, which equals 358 dwellings and a value of $164,751,050. In 2014, the City issued 330 permits, for 531 dwellings — however, they were valued at $156,712,081.

The City of Fort St. John issued 11 building permits in December, which provided seven dwellings, and totaled a value of $7,499,000 in new buildings. Five of those were commercial, three were single family units, two were duplexes, and one was a garage/renovation permit.

The permit with the highest construction value for the year was a $9.6 million permit, given to Argus Properties, to build a 90-room Hilton Home2 hotel.
