FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The City has announced changes with the collection schedules due to Christmas.

Recycling collection ordinarily scheduled on Christmas will take place instead on Saturday, Dec. 26 — and garbage pick-up scheduled on New Years Day will take place on Jan. 2, the Saturday.

All other pick-up schedules will remain the same over the holiday season.

And, with the holidays comes an excess of wrap and packaging to sort into the garbage and recycling; paper gift wrap can go into the blue recycling bins, but foil gift wrap is not recyclable and must be thrown out into the garbage.

Block Styrofoam from toy and electronic packaging can be taken to Eco-Depot for recycling — it cannot go in the blue bin.

When recycling gift wrap and other things accumulated through the holidays, residents are reminded to not overfill their bins. The bins can’t be picked up if the lid is up.

Bins should be at the curb by 8:00 a.m. on collection day.
