Free scarves, toques, gloves offered outside to those in need

If you see toques, scarves, or mittens tied around trees or telephone poles, they may not be lost items. Instead, they might be there to be taken.

In a partnership with the Salvation Army and the Northern Dance Theatre Society, NEAT is accepting donations of these items to put out in public, so that those who need them can take them.

Tammy Hrab with NEAT says they didn’t promote this program, instead choosing to work quietly.

“We weren’t necessarily looking for recognition, it was just a good time to give,” she said.

Hrab says NEAT accepts donations of smaller accessories, which they take care of putting up.

During the season, the Salvation Army is still accepting clothing donations for bigger items like jackets, which go to people who need them to stay warm during the winter months.
