The National Energy Board has issued an Inspection Officer Order in response to the release of an unconfirmed vapour volume at the Pine River Gas Plant near Chetwynd yesterday.

According to a press release from the Government of Canada, the vapours released originated from a gas ‘sweetening’ system, a process that is used to remove carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide from natural gas.

The plant was shut down when the release was identified and the incident is over.

The plant is operated by Westcoast Energy Inc., carrying on business as Spectra Energy Transmission.
