Grande Prairie RCMP searching for suspect reported driving over 200 km/h

Grande Prairie RCMP have issued a warrant for a man who led police on a chase through the city, and may have a connection to another incident where a man was allegedly threatened with a firearm.

34-year-old Curtis Wesley Augustus of Grande Prairie is wanted for possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, flight from police, dangerous driving and resisting arrest.

The suspect was travelling in excess of 200 km/h at one point.

On Saturday night around 11 PM, RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle in an attempt to take him into custody, in relation to a firearms complaint.

The suspect fled, and police pursued. Police called off the chase when they reached the south end of the city to ensure the safety of the public.

It is believed that Augustus could be in possession of a firearm, and should not be approached – he should be taken as armed and dangerous.

Grande Prairie RCMP describe Augustus as black, 6’5”, weighing 220 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes.
