The senior boys volleyball team from North Peace Secondary School came away with a fifth place finish out of 15 teams at the Big Red Tournament in Grande Prairie. While the squad was happy with how they did against the competition, they left feeling the result could have been a little better.

Coach Diane Sandberg said defence really stood out as they excelled in that area, and they feel they are on the cusp of better things ahead.

“I would say our defence was really excellent this weekend, very strong. There were so many positives this weekend. The boys were really pleased with their own results. They could see how close they were to doing even better so they were really excited by their play. We should have been top four in the boys minds,” she said.

The result should also help boost the morale of the team Sandberg added as they executed their game as typical volleyball players should.

“They played like volleyball players. They’ve always been very athletic boys but didn’t really see themselves as a volleyball player, just athletic kids on the court. This weekend they could really see the potential that they are volleyball players and that they are doing a great job,” she said.

The home tournament for NPSS volleyball is scheduled for October 16-17.
