Fort St. John RCMP warning about scam artists in the area

A scam message received by a resident seemed that the caller, with and unidentifiable organization, was telling the resident they would forward a warrant for arrest to the police.

But Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says that warrants don’t work that way in Canada. They come from a court process, and are forwarded directly to the police. A warrant would not got to a resident before it goes to the police.

Shelkie says that you should be skeptical of anyone claiming to have a warrant for your arrest, unless you are speaking to a legitimate police officers.

She adds that you should never send money in any form to anyone unless you can confirm that this money is owed.

Another prevalent scam in the past has been callers pretending to be with the Canadian Revenue Agency.
