Tichelaar teaches about triathlon

Olympic triathlete Paul Tichelaar clearly knows a thing or two about his sport.

On Saturday, Tichelaar was in Fort St. John to teach a beginner and intermediate seminar about triathlons at the Pomeroy Sport Centre.

Tichelaar was brought to Fort St. John by Ferris Fast Cycles, where the Olympian talked about various techniques and equipment needed for all three aspects of a triathlon; running, biking and swimming.

He discussed the importance of goals and ways to achieve those goals. He also discussed the importance of training regiments and planning for specific events.

One of the focuses of his seminar was on nutrition when Tichelaar talked about some common misconceptions.

Tichelaar said one common misconception is that a lot of carbohydrates are necessary before a race. However, he said it’s actually better to have smaller portions of carbs.

He also gave participants hands-on tips on the Northern Vac Track, even running some laps.
