Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm has confirmed that School District 60 is getting $704 thousand in provincial funding for new school buses.
It’s part of a province-wide $12.5 million investment for 106 new buses, featuring an exhaust particulate emission reduction of 90 percent compared to the 1994 standard.
The Peace River North School District will get three pairs of the new diesel buses, with three different load capacities of 84, 72, and 54 passengers.
Education Minister Margaret MacDermid says, “Over the coming months, we will be looking for new ways to provide student bus transporation which will save money that can be reinvested in classrooms.”
She says right now student transporation costs run in excess of $90 million a year.
