Fort St. John Fire Crews remain on the scene of Friday nights Apartment Fire on 93rd avenue.
Upon arrival, Police and Fire Crews found one apartment fully engulfed in flames. All the residents of the building were evacuated while fire crews attempted to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Staff from Sterling Management say some residents reported an electrical problem earlier in the evening.
Roughly 60 residents were evacuated from the apartment complex building, and were asked to meet at the Enerplex for information on accommodations and emergency services.
Redpath predicts that the building is a complete write-off, and he says neighboring buildings will have some smoke damage.
Sterling Management operates the apartment complex on 93rd Avenue. Sterling is asking all residents to check-in with the RCMP to ensure everyone is accounted for. If you need to ask about personal belongings, contact Sterling Management at 250-785-2829.
Officials say Sterling’s office will be open on Monday, and all affected residents are asked to come in for information on new accommodations. Sterling says it has enough vacancies in other apartment buildings to accommodate everyone.
Also, most of the tenants do not have insurance, so starting Monday, Sterling will begin accepting donations at its office on 100th Street near the TD bank.
