Huskies and Flyers both play 2 this weekend

The Huskies and Senior Flyers are both looking ahead to two game weekends.

For the Huskies, it’s two more big games, as they visit Grande Prairie on Friday, and Whitecourt on Saturday, with the threat of losing their grip on second place if they don’t bring home four points.

It’s a tough assignment for the pups, as they will make the long trip with as few as four defencemen.   The back-end is suffering from injuries to Cash Brinkworth and Tyson Pederson, and suspensions to Jesse Disher (2 games for abuse of official vs. Beaverlodge on Sunday) and Payden Wongstedt (1 game for hit-to-head vs. North Peace on Saturday)

Both games will be live on Moose FM – but note an unusual start time of 8:30 both nights, with the pre-game show starting at 8:15.

For the Flyers, the weekend isn’t quite as serious.

On Thursday night, the Flyers visit Grande Prairie, to take on the Athletics.  The Athletics sit just one point back of Spirit River for second place in the NPHL, and have continued to improve this season. They are the only team to beat Fort St. John this season, doing so on opening night at the NPA. They boast one of the league’s best goaltenders, the acrobatic David Larson, as well as a rugged and sizeable team defence.

On Saturday night, the Flyers return to the NPA, to host the High Prairie Regals.  At 8-13-1, the Regals sit in second place in the NPHL’s weaker Eastern Division.  In the only other meeting of the season, the Flyers crushed the Regals 13-2 in High Prairie (Nov. 22).
