7 local athletes are back in the area after traveling to Prince Georgefor the Spruce Capital Track and Field Meet over the weekend.
On Saturday, it was Sub Zero’s Kelsey Young winning the 10 year-old boys 1500 meters – he also won the long jump event. 11 year old Alex May took the bronze in the 1500 meters. And, in the 400 meters Clearview student Talia Miller wins her race to give her a good chance to be selected to represent Zone 8 in the upcoming B. C. Summer Games to be held in Kelowna in late July.
In the field events Samantha Archer grabs a bronze in the shotput. Lien Miller-Jeanotte dominates the 12 year old boy’s shot-put to win gold… he also picks up a decisive victory in the discus and a bronze medal in the javelin.
On Sunday more gold for Lien Miller-Jeanotte in the 200 meters, he also takes silver in the long jump and bronze in the high jump. Kelsey Young wins silver in the javelin. Talia Miller wins gold in the discus while Jaycee Bird wins bronze in the shot-put. Samantha Archer finished a strong weekend off with a silver in her first ever discus competition.
So, all in all a great weekend for the Sub Zeros (they sent 7 athletes and came back with 31 medals and ribbons) – this meet completes the competitive season for local track and field athletes with the exception, as mentioned, of Talia Miller who now waits to see if she will be selected for the B. C. Summer Games to be held in Kelowna in late July.
