Wind Energy

BC Hydro has issued the largest clean power call, in this province’s history.

It is asking power producers to submit proposals, which would annually add up, to 5 thousand gigawatt hours of clean or renewable energy.

That’s enough electricity for 5 hundred thousand homes and, wind energy can produce the power through the installation, of 16 hundred megawatts of generating capacity.

That would represent close to a four billion dollar investment and, would create three thousand jobs, placing BC among the countries leaders in wind energy generation.

Canadian Wind Energy Association President, Robert Hornung says, “Our members have been anxiously awaiting this opportunity and are ready to respond”.

The first BC wind energy generating facility is set to open in October, here in the Peace, about 40 kilometers southwest of Hudson’s Hope.

The 180 megawatt Dokie Wind Project is expected to produce enough electricity, to power 53 thousand homes.
