There was a police pursuit incident in Fort St. John yesterday afternoon and, it ended with a suspect deciding he didn’t want to tangle with a police dog.
The pursuit started shortly before one o’clock, on 99th avenue near 108th street, when the RCMP attempted to pull over the driver of a stolen 2007 Dodge pickup.
He fled the scene and was followed to a rural area northwest of the city, where he attempted to flee on foot, after getting the truck stuck in mud.
However, when a police dog was called to the scene a suspect emerged from a wooded area and surrendered.
Police had initially responded to a call from the owner of the stolen truck, who spotted it being driven in the city.
After recovering suspected stolen items from the vehicle, police are taking public information and stolen property assistance calls at 787-81-40 and 1-800 222-84-77.
Meantime, 43 year old Christopher Pierre of Fort St. John faces charges of stolen property over five thousand dollars, flight from a police officer and, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
He’s been remanded in custody, until his next scheduled court appearance on June 23rd.
