A group of nuclear power plant protesters in the Alberta Peace says, there’s nowhere in the region to store radioactive waste.

The group “Stop Poisoning Our Communities held a rally on Friday, outside the Grande Prairie constituency office of Alberta Energy minister Mel Knight.

It sited a University of Calgary study, claiming there’s nowhere geologically appropriate, for an underground temporary on-site storage chamber at the proposed location.

It is expected to take 12 to 15 years, before the project west of Peace River could be approved.

However, the industry-funded Nuclear Waste Management Organization says, Canada is still 20 to 30 years removed, from completing a national storage facility project.
