Two found by rescuers on B.C. lakeshore in Sea to Sky region after plane ‘submerged’

SQUAMISH — Search and rescuers in Victoria, B.C., say two people were found on the shore of Seagram Lake in the Squamish River Valley early Tuesday after their plane went down.

Capt. Pedram Mohyeddin, a public affairs officer with Canadian Armed Forces, says in a statement the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre got a call about a Cessna carrying two people that was overdue around 11 p.m. Monday.

The statement says the centre sent out two search and rescue aircraft to the plane’s last known position outside Whistler, where they were discovered.

It says the Cessna is “assumed’ to have gone into the waters of Seagram Lake, and the two people were put aboard a helicopter and handed over to emergency health services.

Sea to Sky RCMP say the Cessna had taken off from Squamish Airport but didn’t return, and the plane’s occupants were taken to hospital with ‘serious injuries.”

The Transportation Safety Board says it’s aware of the accident, but is not sending a team due to the plane being submerged in the lake.
