DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Dawson Creek Better at Home will be hosting a launch party to celebrate the rebranding of one of its programs.

On July 20, Dawson Creek Better at Home will host a Community Connector Launch Party to celebrate the rebranding of its Square One Program into the Community Connector Program.

The launch party will include door prizes, pizza and coffee, and will also feature a number of information booths from the South Peace Community Resources Society, the Dawson Creek Senior Citizens Hall and Seniors Access.

The launch party will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dawson Creek Better at Home office, located inside the Co-op Mall at 10200 8th St.

Jayme Suchy, the volunteer coordinator with Dawson Creek Better at Home, told Energeticcity.ca what the Square One Program is.

“Square One is a social prescribing program,” she said. “It was intended that health employees would be able to do prescribing back into the community.”

Suchy said the program ensures seniors “continue to live at home with dignity and respect.”

According to the South Peace Community Resources Society website, the program assists seniors with referrals, information, support, services, opportunities and products that could improve their health, well-being and social connectivity.

“The program allows health care professionals to refer senior clients who may be socially isolated or at risk of frailty to the community connector who can assist them to make those connections,” the website said.

Suchy said Better at Home wants to ensure the rebranding clarifies “what the program does and make it more accessible for everybody to access.”

Despite rebranding the Square One Program to the Community Connector Program, Suchy said the program will remain the same.

“We’re always trying to connect everybody back together, whether it be service providers, volunteers,” she said. “Just always trying to make sure that our seniors are able to connect with individuals to help combat social isolation.”

Suchy also said being connected to the community may offer seniors opportunities they might not have when they are isolated.

“For example, being connected with a group of seniors and then connecting them to other service providers that the seniors may not know about,” she said.

Suchy said anyone is welcome to show up to the launch party anytime.
