FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Warehouse One stores across Canada, including in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek, are set to permanently close.Â
On May 6th, 2026, Warehouse One and Bootlegger were granted creditor protection after filing under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA).Â
The CCAA is a federal law that allows “insolvent” corporations that owe their creditors over $5 million the opportunity to restructure business and financial affairs, according to the Government of Canada.Â
Once a company makes an “initial application” to the Court for protection under the CCAA, if the application is accepted, an initial order is issued.
The order gives the company protection from its creditors for 30 days, which usually prevents collection efforts to enforce current debts. During this period, the company is also prohibited from making a majority of its payments to existing creditors as loans or in other forms of credit.
During the protection period, the company is permitted to continue operating, including paying its employees and serving its customers.Â
According to the company, it was determined it is in the best interest of its stakeholders to begin winding down operations.Â
