Two prescribed burns planned for Moberly Lake hillside, Saulteau First Nations
BC Wildfire Service has scheduled two burns with Saulteau First Nations at Moberly Lake hillside and Saulteau First Nations pastures on April 24th if weather permits.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) will be conducting two prescribed burns with Saulteau First Nations at Moberly Lake hillside and Saulteau First Nations pastures.Â
According to a Facebook post uploaded to BC Wildfire Service’s page on April 23rd, the burns may begin as early as April 24th if weather permits.Â
The burn at Moberly Lake hillside will cover approximately 50 hectares of grass on provincial crown land and Saulteau First Nations Reserve Land.Â

The second burn will take place at the Saulteau First Nations pasture, which covers approximately 120 hectares of grass on the Saulteau First Nation Reserve Lands.Â
The key goals of the burns are to practice cultural traditions, grass fire risk reduction, and cross-training with the Saulteau First Nations, BC Wildfire Service and Moberly Lake Fire Department.Â
Smoke from both the burns may be visible to Saulteau First Nations, Moberly Lake, Chetwynd, commuters on Highway 29 and surrounding areas.Â
The post said burning will only continue if conditions are favourable.Â
