Tumbler Ridge Health Centre extends emergency department hours

Northern Health announced the Tumbler Ridge Health Centre emergency department has extended its hours.

Tumbler Ridge, B.C. — Northern Health has extended emergency department hours at the Tumbler Ridge Health Centre.

According to a Facebook post by Northern Health, “staffing stability” has allowed the emergency department to extend its hours to 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, with the exception of statutory holidays. 

“Staff at the Tumbler Ridge Health Centre have been trialling the new hours for the past couple of weeks, and Northern Health is pleased to share that they’re now formally in place.”

In addition to the new hours, Northern Health said it will still look to improve essential medical services in Tumbler Ridge.

 “We continue to work to stabilize and enhance health care services in Tumbler Ridge, and look forward to updating the community as the work progresses,” Northern Health said in the post. 

“We want to express our gratitude to local medical, nursing and allied health staff as well as locums who serve the community on a steady rotating basis for making this extension possible.”

The Tumbler Ridge Health Centre continues to operate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., allowing residents to access mental health support and non-emergency urgent primary care services during these hours. 

Tumbler Ridge residents are urged to call 9-1-1 for life-threatening emergencies after hours, including overnight and on weekends.
