Fort St. John birthing centre closed for 24 hours until April 3rd

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The birthing centre in Fort St. John will be temporarily closed due to “staffing shortages.”

According to Northern Health, maternity services at the Fort St. John birthing centre were unavailable starting 8 a.m. on April 2nd and will not reopen again until 8 a.m. on April 3rd.

The health authority, in a written statement to Energeticcity.ca, said: “Dawson Creek and District Hospital and the University Hospital of Northern B.C. are prepared to receive pregnant patients from Fort St. John needing care.”

Northern Health said patients were notified of the service interruptions.

“[Patients were] provided with information about what they should do, should they need care,” Northern Health said. “The Fort St. John Hospital emergency department is also ready to receive patients needing urgent care.”
