Fort St. John salon raises $900 and 1,000 lbs for Salvation Army food bank
Rheannon White, owner of Studio 105, said the annual Cuts for Cans fundraiser raises awareness of people in need. In 2026, donations were collected for Fort St. John’s Salvation Army food bank.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A Fort St. John hair salon raised $900 in donations and 1,000 lbs of food for the local food bank as a result of its Cuts for Cans event.
Studio 105 put together the event, which featured a trade for either a cash donation or a non-perishable food item in exchange for a haircut, on Saturday, March 7th.
In its 10th year, the event was created by Studio 105 owner Rheannon White for community members who may be unable to get a haircut and to assist local food banks like the Fort St. John Salvation Army and the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society.

In 2026, the Fort St. John Salvation Army’s food bank was the beneficiary.

“The premise of the event came from raising awareness of people in need,” said White. “Just because someone doesn’t look like they [are in] need, it doesn’t mean they aren’t.”
The staff of cutters at the shop on 10712 101st Avenue did their jobs during the event entirely free of charge throughout Saturday, March 7th.

A total of 130 haircuts took place throughout the day.
“It wasn’t our most successful year but it was great,” said White. “We get a lot of people that come back every year.”
Although White was generally pleased, the city’s annual dodgeball tournament which took place on the same day in 2026 means she may look for a date in April for next year’s event.
