FORT ST.JOHN, B.C. — Teenagers from North Peace Secondary School walked out of class in protest amid allegations among the student body.

The pupils gathered across from the school just after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 12th, to protest the School District 60’s response to an alleged sexual assault outside the school.

Energeticcity.ca reached out to SD60 for comment, for more information and to confirm the nature of the incident, but it said the district is unable to provide a comment at this time.

A Facebook post advertising the protest alleges a victim’s shirt was lifted up and her bra unclipped by another student.

Around 10-12 students braved the -17 C weather for the protest, with many in attendance holding signs with slogans such as “protect people, not predators” and “educate to end violence.”

Numerous vehicles that drove by the protest honked their horns in support of the protest.

One of the protesters, who is not being named because they are a minor, told Energeticcity.ca that the demonstration was because the perpetrator allegedly only received a suspension.

North Peace Secondary School belongs to School District 60, which serves much of the Peace River North district. The school district’s main office is located in Fort St. John.
