PRRD and City of Dawson Creek welcome new rural fire truck
The PRRD and City of Dawson Creek say the new fire truck is designed specifically for rural conditions.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) and the City of Dawson Creek are welcoming the arrival of a new fire truck built specifically for rural conditions.
According to a press release from the city and PRRD on February 13th, a traditional “push-in” ceremony was held the same morning at the Dawson Creek Fire Hall on 12A Street.
The “longstanding” fire service tradition sees firefighters push a new engine into the hall for the first time, symbolizing its official entry into service.
The PRRD says it purchased the all-wheel-drive truck for use by Dawson Creek Fire Rescue under the Dawson Creek-Pouce Coupe Rural Fire Protection service agreement, which covers a defined rural area surrounding the city.
PRRD vice chair Leonard Hiebert said the investment reflects a commitment to rural residents.
“Residents outside of city boundaries deserve reliable, modern emergency response,” said Hiebert.
“Through our Rural Fire Protection service agreement with the City of Dawson Creek-Pouce Coupe, we’re able to put top-quality equipment in the hands of experienced firefighters who already know and serve our communities. It’s a smart model for regional service delivery.”

“Upgrading from a two-wheel-drive unit to an all-wheel-drive truck means our crews can safely reach harder-to-access areas when it matters most,” said Capelle.
Dawson Creek Mayor Darcy Dober said the partnership between the city and the PRRD is critical to protecting residents both within the city and in surrounding rural areas.
“We’re very pleased to see this new fire truck supporting our fire rescue team and enhancing our ability to respond where and when we’re needed most,” said Dober.
