CIBC donates $100,000 in response to deadly Tumbler Ridge mass shooting

CIBC said the funds will go to the CIBC Foundation’s B.C. Emergency Relief Fund and support local efforts to help those directly impacted by the Tumbler Ridge shooting.

TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. — CIBC says it is donating $100,000 to assist the community of Tumbler Ridge following the deadly mass shooting on Tuesday.

In a press release on Wednesday, February 11th, the bank announced the funds will go to the CIBC Foundation’s British Columbia Emergency Relief Fund.

According to CIBC, the funding will support local efforts to help those directly impacted by the tragedy and contribute to “broader healing and recovery” initiatives.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. and our thoughts are with members of the community who are grieving, as well as with first responders,” said Harry Culham, president and chief executive of CIBC.

“This unimaginable tragedy has touched the hearts of all Canadians, and we stand ready to offer our support to the community on behalf of our team and our clients.”

The announcement follows the February 10th shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. Nine people, including the shooter, died in the incident, and 27 were injured.

CIBC says individuals who wish to support those affected can also make donations through the CIBC Foundation’s British Columbia Emergency Relief Fund.

The Tumbler Ridge Parent Advisory Council (PAC) has also organized a GoFundMe, which has currently raised $75,569.
