FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Below are the latest sentences handed down from the Fort St. John court between December 22nd and 26th. 

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, December 22nd

Trisha Yvonne Attachie (born 1987):

Attachie was found guilty of driving with a suspended driver’s licence on May 5th, 2025 in Doig. 

Attachie was handed a driving prohibition for one year and a fine of $1,000. She must pay a victim surcharge – which goes towards helping the victims of a crime – of $150.

Maranda Janine Farrell (born 1995):

Farrell was found guilty of possessing a firearm without a licence or registration on October 12th, 2024 in Farmington. 

Farrell was handed a suspended sentence, is subject to forfeiture – which allows the government to seize property and assets ‘tainted’ by crime – and given a probation order for 12 months. 

They were also handed a firearms prohibition for five years. 

Brandon Curtis Macleod (born 1989):

Macleod was found guilty of possession for the purpose of selling and trafficking on June 10th, 2024 in Fort St. John. 

Macleod was handed a conditional sentence – which is served outside of jail under strict conditions, sometimes called ‘house arrest’ – for 540 days and a secondary DNA order. 

They were also ordered to report for sample collection, are subject to forfeiture and given a firearms prohibition for 10 years. Macleod was told to pay a victim surcharge of $200. 

Justin Watson (born 1992):

Watson was found guilty of failing to comply with a prohibition order on January 25th, 2025 in Fort St. John. 

Watson was sentenced to jail for one day and will have to pay a victim surcharge of $100. 

Shawn Alexander Wilson (born 1987):

Wilson was found guilty of robbery on January 2nd, 2025 and breaking and entering a dwelling with intent or to commit on March 19th, 2025 in Fort St. John. 

Wilson was handed a jail time served sentence, a DNA order and was told to report for sample collection. 

He was also given a probation order for 18 months and a firearms prohibition for 10 years. He must pay a victim surcharge of $200. 

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, December 23rd

Shayne Steve Karey (born 1983):

Karey was found guilty of multiple offences: 

  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000 and breach of an undertaking on June 27th, 2024 in Fort St. John. 
  • Theft $5,000 or under on February 19th, 2024 in Fort St. John. 
  • Theft $5,000 or under on July 12th, 2024 in Fort St. John. 
  • Theft $5,000 or under on December 11th, 2024 in Fort St. John. 
  • Theft $5,000 or under on February 10th, 2025 in Fort St. John. 
  • Theft $5,000 or under on April 3rd, 2025 in Fort St. John. 

Karey was sentenced to jail time served. They were also handed a conditional sentence for 90 days and a probation order for 12 months. 

Darren Bruce Hazel (born 1972): 

Hazel was found guilty of hunting on cultivated land without consent on January 22nd, 2023 in Fort St. John. 

Hazel was sentenced to forfeiture and was fined $1. He was asked to pay $3,999 in restitution – which requires the offender to pay the victim for financial losses the victim suffered because of the crime – and a victim surcharge of $0.15.
