RCMP arrest man after ‘dangerous person alert’

The Grande Prairie RCMP issued a critical ‘dangerous person alert,’ warning residents of an armed and extremely dangerous suspect in the region.

GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. – The Grande Prairie RCMP have issued a critical ‘dangerous person alert,’ warning residents of an armed and extremely dangerous suspect currently at large in the region.

The ‘dangerous person alert’ is in effect for areas between Grande Prairie, Rycroft, and the British Columbia border. Police warn the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Curtis Halliday, is in possession of multiple firearms and has already shot at several individuals near Grande Prairie.

Suspect and vehicle description

Halliday is believed to be driving a black 2022 Ford F-350 with licence plate CMZ0105. He was last known to be in the area northwest of Grande Prairie, near LaGlace.

Police have provided a physical description of Halliday:

  • Complexion: Fair
  • Height: Six feet, three inches
  • Weight: 249 pounds
  • Hair: Brown
  • Eyes: Brown

Note: The RCMP have not released a photo of the suspect at this time.

Area of concern

Residents and travellers in the following areas should be on high alert:

  • Southeast: Grande Prairie
  • West: Along Highway 43 to the B.C. border
  • North: Along Highway 2 to Rycroft
  • Northwest: West to the B.C. border along Highway 49

Instructions for the public

Authorities are urging the public not to approach the suspect or the vehicle under any circumstances. Halliday is considered armed and very dangerous.

Anyone who sees the suspect or the black Ford F-350 (Plate: CMZ0105) is told to avoid all contact and call 911 immediately.

The RCMP has stated no further details are available at this time, but an update is anticipated.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to lock their doors and stay away from windows while the situation develops.
