FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Locals looking to get some new ink can also contribute to a notable cause while they are at it this weekend.

Downtown Fort St. John tattoo shop Soulfire Tattoo Studio is looking to raise food and donations on Saturday, December 13th, during its second annual Christmas Flash Charity Event.

Anyone interested in getting a flash tattoo – a pre-drawn, ready to go design – who brings in a donation will receive a 50 per cent discount on the tattoo.

Donations from the event will support the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society (FSJWRS).

Shop owner Cody Morin told Energeticcity.ca he’s run the shop on 100th Street for about two years.

He says the shop “does a couple of charity events” annually, including one for Mental Health Awareness month in May, with proceeds going to Wounded Warriors.

Morin anticipates a busy Saturday judging from last year’s event.

“The last couple [of fundraisers] we have done, we have gathered a truckload of donations,” said Morin. “We filled the box of a truck and the back seat and we are looking to add to that.

“[We are] looking to hopefully double that. I’m not sure how the turnout is going to be.”

Assisting in the endeavour will be guest artist Jenny Klassen, also a local tattoo artist. Morin said he has worked alongside Klassen during his career.

Morin said there are a few notable items missing from the FSJWRS Outreach Store’s wish list including cereal, canned soups and meats, canned vegetables, pancake mix, syrup, jams, peanut butter and more.

The event starts at 10 a.m. until Morin says the shop has “no more clients” on Saturday, December 13th at Soulfire Tattoo Studio at 10104 100th Street in Fort St. John.

Appointments or walk-in clients are welcome. Call the shop at 250-263-7322 or email Soulfiretattoocorp@gmail.com for more information, or visit the store’s Instagram and Facebook pages for a glimpse of their artwork.
